“As I sat down to write about ‘Confidence is Everything’ I began to think about the album’s character. Illien’s production kicks in strong, followed shortly by Ullnevano’s entrance: a humble, yet comfortable introduction that soon finds the MC harnessing a fast and aggressive flow. As I listened and began to write, I realized how brilliant and fitting the title is. Confidence is the dominant character of this record. A quick google search reveals that “Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective.” and that “Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself.” To be confident is not necessarily arrogant, and in the case of Ullnevano and Illien Rosewell they know what they want and they’re going for it full force, without pretense.
Stylistically, the album has a predominant east-coast hip-hop flavor, with Ullnevano citing Big L as a major influence, while Rosewell’s production is heavily sample based, but extremely broad in approach. This creates an album that flows one track into the next, while remaining dynamic and unpredictable. As an MC and producer, the duo make an impressive team that have created an album that truly lives up to it’s title.”
