"There must be something in the water in St. Louis. I mean, other than the questionable levels of pollution flowing through the Mississippi. Whatever it is, the town has been THE standard for raucous punk for years now. Skin Tags is no exception.

Back in 2016, the group dropped a couple of demos on their Bandcamp. Three years later, the finished product has finally arrived. It was worth the wait. Combining the insanity and fury of Complainer with the structure and drive of the Little Big Bangs gets you the band's self-titled debut record. This album is as crisp as they come and an absolute delight of a listen.

Lucy’s vocals are ferocious and she compliments her delivery lyrically. Tracks 7 through 9 are perhaps the best examples on the record. “Imagine your soul is an organ in your body, now hold it with your mind” kicks off "I Hate Life." It’s somehow both an unsettling thought and quite comforting. Mabel and Lucy display amazing chemistry on the strings, while Shelly keeps everything a bit more organized than those who are familiar with Complainer might expect. Side note: Shelly’s snare sounds like the snare in "Ghoul’s Night Out" and that friggin' rules!

The overall record is reminiscent of the classic D.C. sound, which is probably an overused comparison, but this one is the real deal. You’d be hard pressed to find a group that can pull off the pace and precision found on this record.

For those looking for the soundtrack to gridlock traffic in summer heat or some of that “emotional hardcore” Ian MacKaye was reluctant to endorse, Skin Tags can do both and they do it well."
